Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In early 2022 our childhood friend Max Ellis took his own
life. Since then, we have been trying to come to terms with what happened, and a big part of that process has obviously been a feeling of great sadness. But this experience has also taught us many things, one of which is that talking about mental health is still uncomfortable for many within our age group, and no less so within our friendship circle, something which we would like to change.
In talking through Max’s death we have gradually improved awareness
of our own mental health journey and the ability to talk to one another about the various highs and lows. And collectively as a group we have all come to learn of our ability to really open up once we are out hiking together in the beautiful landscapes we have around us. It is this realisation that ‘Summit to Share’ was born from, as we really want to turn this story into something positive.
And it is on this note that we would like to share with you
our first group fundraiser. Project: Hike for Max.
In early May 2023 we will be taking on the Two Moors Way,
hiking from Wembury in South Devon to Lynmouth in North Devon. Taking in Devon’s beautiful national parks, Dartmoor and Exmoor, we will hike roughly 110 miles over 6 days carrying all our supplies and camping gear with us.
Hiking our shared home county, this challenge is first and
foremost in memory of Max. But we will also be raising money for the fantastic charity Ask For Jake, as they support us on this challenge and in getting our message across to as many as possible.
Let’s normalise talking about mental health! Let’s raise
money! And let’s get more young people out there enjoying our landscapes for all the amazing benefits they have to offer.
