The Avon Centre is an independent charity based in Bristol dedicated to providing the benefits of horses and nature to Disabled and Disadvantaged people.

Story

In August 2019 I will be taking part in the Superhero Triathlon in Windsor! This is all because I want to raise funds for Avon Riding Centre for the Disabled (ARC), as I want to help them continue the amazing things they do, and opportunities they give, to disabled children and adults.

I have a number of physical disabilities myself, and I am an RDA rider at ARC. I have experienced first hand the fantastic work they do, and how beneficial horseriding is for people with disabilities - it is truly life changing! My physiotherapists have all commented on how much my horse riding helps my disabilities, by keeping my muscles strong, increasing my cardiovascular fitness, and also the positive affect it has on my mental health.

ARC are a local charity who do not receive any government funding - all the amazing things they do are only possible because of fundraising efforts. I would love to raise £1000 for them, as a way of saying thank you for how they have changed my life for the better.

My disabilities have a significant effect on my mobility, fitness, and ability to take part in physical exercise - so this is going to be probably the most challenging thing I’ve ever done! The Superhero Tri is an inclusive para-triathlon, open specifically for everyone and anyone with a disability. I will be doing the following to complete the triathlon:

400m open water swim, 10k bike ride, and then a 2.5km “push/run” where I will be propelling myself the whole distance in my manual wheelchair.

I may be slightly bonkers but I am excited for the challenge! Please consider making a donation/sponsoring me so that we can give something back to Avon Riding Centre - they really deserve it.

Thank you, Cat x
