Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am raising funds for Ali’s Dream a member charity of Brain Tumour Research in memory of Alison Phelan from our village who sadly passed away before her eighth birthday
Brain Tumours kill more children than leukaemia and more men under 40 and women under 35 than any other cancer but only 1% of government funding goes to this area of research
I was so moved by Alison’s story and the torment for her parents and brothers and family and first raised funds doing a tandem skydive which was exhilarating . Then in 2011 I was having trouble with my sight which opticians could not correct and it turned out I had a brain tumour encasing my optic nerves , I then had brain surgery twice , a craniotomy then endonasal endoscopic surgery via skull base followed by 7 weeks of daily radiotherapy and thankfully I am one of only 11% of people who survive more than five years after diagnosis
Wear a Hat day was started by Ali’s Dream and has so far raised over 2 million pounds and is a really upbeat way to support this great cause and I feel proud to contribute towards this. I hope you will join me for a fun Friday and a chance to wear a funky hat of some sort and maybe a mad hatters tea party
Thank you

Ali's Dream charity was set up by Alison Phelan's family and friends in order to raise money to fund research into discovering the causes, advancing treatments and finding cures for childhood brain tumours. Sadly this was spurred on by the loss of Alison at the beginning of June 2001.
