Those of you who know me will know that I've always considered myself to be 'a runner' but in reality I've never really got any further than running from the sofa to the fridge and back during the adverts to get a slice of cheesecake!

However, I've been working as a Community Fundraiser for The Donkey Sanctuary since May now and have been lucky enough to see first hand just how amazing this charity is. With this in mind, I decided it's time to leave the cheesecake in the fridge, get off the sofa, pull on my sneakers and run Forrest, run!

I used to think that the Donkey Sanctuary was just a home in Devon for abandoned and neglected donkeys but I've since learnt that there is so much more to this charity than that!

The sanctuary is currently looking after around 5,000 donkeys and mules with a further 1,500 being supported by the sanctuary in foster homes. The charity also works on projects in 30 countries, rescuing donkeys and mules from appalling conditions and educating owners and whole communities with regard to donkey welfare. They also provide riding therapy to children with additional needs at their 6 purpose built Donkey Assisted Therapy Centres across the UK. Amazing, eh?! The more you get involved with the sanctuary, the more you see just how far-reaching and awesome the work of The Donkey Sanctuary is!

Now running isn't my favourite thing (and I suspect that I won't be setting any course records as I run like a demented chicken through the parks of London) but I'm determined to give it a go and raise some money for this wonderful charity.
