Isle of Wight Challenge 2018 · 5 May 2018 to 6 May 2018 ·
** UPDATE** After a slight change of plans, I successfully walked 51 miles around the Isle of Wight over two days (just shy of a marathon a day) and exceeded my fundraising target of £1000! :D
Thank you to everyone who supported me! I really appreciate it!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 2017 I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. I was at the time as far as I knew a normal, healthy 26-year-old, I didn’t really worry about my health and I never considered myself unhealthy before. I definitely took my health for granted.
Once I was diagnosed I went straight in for surgery and then onto 6 month of chemotherapy which, yes, is as bad as you think it is! But I got through it and had the best news possible at the end of last year that I am now cancer-free!
Cancer is a real shit storm at any age, and when it comes at a time when health problems are totally unexpected it can feel like a bolt from the blue. But cancer doesn’t care who you are, how old you are or what plans you have, it can affect anyone at anytime.
In may Chris and I are walking around the Isle of Wight as part of the Isle of Wight challenge. We’ll walk the distance over over two days in order to raise money for cancer research. I want to be a part of the solution and raise as much money as I can to help with their life saving research.
The research being done is making the fight with cancer more winnable every day but it also is making the fight more bearable. There is no cure for cancer and chemotherapy is a long, uncomfortable, often painful process which leaves long lasting and permanent scars and side effects. My body will never be the same again, and nor will my relationship with it, but I can still use it to support a good cause, which is why I am fundraising for cancer research.
