Story

To raise money for a fantastic charity, Anno’s Africa, I’ll be listening to the 80s classic Toto’s Africa on loop for up to 12 hours. The challenge will take place in a glass meeting room on 26th floor of Markel International’s office in London (the Walkie Talkie) so that all of my colleagues can keep an eye on my increasingly irate state. To thank Markel for hosting this never-attempted-before (probably) challenge, proceeds will also go towards its Charity of the Year (tbd).

All money raised will go to charity!

How it’ll work:

For every £15 raised - before and live on the day - I’ll listen to the song once. The song will play on loop for up to 12 hours. That’s up to 158 times.

The challenge will start at 8.30am on 15th March. Although I hope to raise as much money as possible before the challenge, viewers and passersby will have the chance to keep me listening to the song on the day, by donating when I’m in situ in the room - dressed as a giraffe of course. Again, for every £15 raised I’ll listen to the song again.

A bit more about Anno’s Africa and how I’ll be getting involved during my trip to the slums…

Anno’s Africa's remit is to bring to underprivileged children in Sub Saharan Africa opportunities that are normally beyond the hopes and dreams of most children growing up in some of the most overpopulated and poorest slums in the world.  The programme currently offers  an alternative arts education to over 1,700 children across Africa, with classes in 6 major disciplines, art,  creative writing, dance (including ballet) drama, music and circus skills.

At the end of March I’ll be heading to Nairobi to join Anno’s Africa in the slums of Kibera and will be chipping in with some workshops including painting, photography and creative writing. I’ve been following Anno’s incredible work for the past year and have been inspired by their approach and campaign of #ArtsforChange. The charity provides a creative channel for children and young people to express themselves through a range of creative and artistic pursuits.

Please dig deep all, for a very worthy cause. And to see me going bonkers in a glass room.

Thanks

Susy
