The Big One
I've finally taken the plunge and entered the London Marathon. So far this still seems like a good idea. I know the training will get tough in the cold winter months but, after this year's feet disasters, I'm just hoping to avoid broken bones and hold on to all my toenails (that was a grim few weeks) - if I can manage that I'll be a happy girl! I'm trying to raise money for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People so please sponsor me - pretty please! I'll also being doing other fundraising activities, mostly involving cake (to balance out all that running), so be prepared for the very serious business of munching on cupcakes too :)
Why Hearing Dogs? Most of you know I'm completely deaf in one ear and the various issues that can cause, sometimes funny, sometimes serious and more often than not I'm completely oblivious to it either way. When my little dog, the famous Sonny, went through a phase of barking in the night I didn't wake up to the noise. Now, don't get me wrong, not being woken up in this instance is really quite handy, but it struck me that for the profoundly deaf a smoke alarm going off could be missed, a baby crying, a doorbell or even something as mundane as an alarm clock (and no, that isn't why I'm always late for work although it would have been a good excuse!). For me being deaf is just a nuisance but for others it can be very difficult and isolating. Hearing Dogs can change lives and I'm really excited to be supporting this charity and hope you will be too. For more information on the charity you can visit the website at www.hearingdogs.org.uk
