Story
We've done it! We have completed our 10 mile swim down the Thames for "Help for Heroes" - we have just spent approximately seven hours swimming in pretty chilly and murky green water, spread across two days. And confess that we loved it. Well, most of the time....
As we promised to our trusty and hugely appreciated sponsors, here are a few action shots and a brief resume below to prove that we did really do it, and didn't take off to the Maldives with your cash. And, for those of you who haven't yet sponsored us, don't be shy, you know it makes sense - it's a great cause and we'd love to hit (or beat) our new target sum of £2,000.
Our 10 mile swim started just outside Lechlade in Gloucestershire, and ended at Tadpole Bridge in Oxfordshire. We started the swim with five other equally bonkers people - none of whom were even doing it for charity! They were doing it just for the sheer fun of it! And you thought we were mad!
By the end, just the two of us and three of the others made it past the finishing line. It was that tough!!! We got through it using a combination of sheer grit, determination, a lot of hysteria and quite a few painkillers. Chocolate and Guinness played a pretty central part in the survival pack, too. Suzanne was determined to swim 'al fresco' in her swimsuit, and did so until two hours before the end when the allure of the cosy wet suit finally took over (before hypothermia got there first).
So, it has been an unforgettable challenge and once we've recovered no doubt we'll be planning the next one. Neither of us fancies the Channel much, but there are some great swimming routes between various Greek Islands whch sounds much more fun.... watch this space.
Thank you all so very much - we are both really proud that our humble efforts have raised so much money for such a wonderful cause. We couldn't have done it without you!
Love from Suzanne & Claire xx
