Walk 1,000 miles · 30 January 2018

We are a local charity based in Surbiton providing centre-based support to adults living in the community with mental health challenges or learning disabilities. We also provide residential and supported living for 24 adults with learning disabilities in our purpose built homes in Chessington.

Story

Having twice volunteered at The Fircroft Trust, I have had the privilege of seeing first-hand the care and support offered to local adults with mental health problems.  I  found the experience very heart-warming and am touched that  Nikon UK has chosen The Fircroft Trust as its charity of the year for 2018.  We hope not only to raise funds but also to volunteer our services, and above all to work towards breaking down the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Who among us can claim to be part of a family where no one suffers or has suffered from some form of mental health challenge?  Sadly, science has some way to go in providing solutions.

My plan is to walk to work and do longer walks at the weekends.  For someone who's driven to work for nearly 15 years, this represents somewhat of a lifestyle change!  I need to average 2.74 miles a day, which sounds easy but it's equally easy to slip behind.  I've joined the Ramblers, bought a few shares in HF (walking) Holidays and upgraded my backpack...

Will you help me walk 1,000 miles?
