Swimming Lengths Reducing Harm 2015m · 28 February 2015
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
There's no end to the lengths we'll go to at Crew to raise awareness, educate and support people around psycho-stimulant drugs, in particular New Psychoactive Substances which are often rather unhelpfully known as "legal highs".
Our services include:
· Crew’s Drop-In ‘shop’ in Edinburgh’s city centre offering DJ-workshops, Blood-borne Virus testing, NPS drug and alcohol brief interventions and sexual health advice
· outreach welfare interventions at festivals and dance music events across Scotland
· an online harm reduction information and support service, MyCrew www.mycrew.org.uk
· intensive counselling for people who wish to reduce, stabilise or stop NPS or psycho-stimulant drug use
· ongoing support to build recovery capital
· activities to generate income: training and expert witness services
Last year, more than 46,600 people accessed a CREW service and this number is growing every year. Our amazing volunteer peer educators and staff team make this possible.
We do not condemn or condone substance use and do not wait until it becomes problematic before offering effective interventions. Our ‘Stepped Care’ approach provides information and support wherever someone might be with their substance use and our commitment to utilising peer-led approaches ‘by the community, for the community’ inspires credibility and trust amongst our young service users and our wider stakeholders.
Drop-in: 61% of young people (12-25 years) completing our annual evaluation survey reported that Crew Drop-In has helped them to better understand the risks/effects of alcohol and drugs. 83% of these young people said they felt better able to support their friends in relation to alcohol, drugs and sexual health since coming to the Drop-In. 49% reported using substances more safely after accessing the Drop-In and 53% reported being more knowledgeable about alcohol after accessing the Drop-In.
Outreach: 58% of people we asked people reported that their knowledge had increased as a result of speaking to Crew.
Support and Recovery Service: 72% of our clients with underlying trauma reported a substantial increase in physical and mental wellbeing, 68% a much better functioning in life. In addition, 80% reported a significant reduction in problems and 76% significantly reduced the risks they were taking.
22 people accessed our Mindfulness for Relapse Prevention group in 2014. 100% said they had reduced their use of drugs or judged that participating in the group had a positive effect on their recovery capital, e.g. improved self-management skills, stronger/wider social networks. 100% reported improved self-awareness, 72% of people said that their self-esteem and motivation had improved, and reduced anxiety. 63% reported feeling better at dealing with triggers for use.
62 people engaged with our recovery worker pre-counselling 2013, ensuring a more positive transition into treatment. 67% increased their recovery capital, and 72% of clients with underlying trauma increased wellbeing and 76% reduced risk-taking.
47 individuals participated in our National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) ear acupuncture Drop-in 2013: 70% reported reduced drug use; 2% stabilised; 5% stopped.
