HemiHelp's services are now being delivered by Contact, the charity for families with disabled children. To support families of children with a disability please fundraise for Contact. If you wish, your donation can specifically support families living with hemiplegia - just let Contact know.

Story

I'm aiming to swim ten lengths at Wells Leisure Centre to raise money and awareness for HemiHelp, the charity that supports children with Hemiplegia and their families.

I have Acquired left sided Hemiplegia as a result of E-coli infection around the time I was two.  Hemiplegia has no cure but a lot can be done to limit the effects and manage the condition.  I do daily Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy with my Mum and every day at school.  I have to wear lots of splints and a special one on my foot called an Ankle Foot Orthosis, without which I can't walk and need support from a wheelchair.

Hemiplegia affects around one child in 1,000.

I'm supporting Hemihelp because they organise lots of cool events for their members and support their families too.  They also provide lots of information and fund research.  We also get sent a really useful quarterly newsletter packed with information and tips.

I'm swimming to raise awareness of Hemiplegia for HemiHelp's Hemiplegia Awareness Week (15th - 19th October).  I'm looking forward to it all!

I am very grateful if you can support me and HemiHelp.
