We raise funds for young people with cancer to provide a 'smile' and create memories

Story

What is Miles for Smiles?

Drive 2,000 miles round Europe in an old banger in a test of human and mechanical endurance.

We'll be driving or maybe pushing our 20 year old, Mazda 323 through Western Europe, taking in the hard shoulders and roadsides of France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy, all with no mechanical knowledge.

All costs of the rally will be covered by team members, with all money raised going to the Trust.

The Alexandra Sales Trust

Established in memory of Alex, a friend diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer at the age of 17. Throughout her illness, Alex received help and support from small charities whose aim was to help young people and their families ‘smile’ in adversity.

With that in mind, Alex’s family and friends set up the Trust to provide ‘smile’ money to other young people being treated for cancer. This could include anything from an iPad to a weekend away with their family, anything to take their mind away from the daily trauma they endure.

So far the Trust has raised and spent nearly £150,000 on creating memories, but we want to help create more! Please donate whatever you can, even the smallest amount can make a big difference to the life of a young cancer sufferer. Thank you for your support!

About the charity

The Trust has been set up to create a legacy in the memory Alexandra, who, on the 2nd April 2013 was diagnosed with Mastitis Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare, rapidly spreading soft tissue cancer. She passed away on the 16th September 2014 aged just 17. The ethos of our Trust is to support children and young people aged 1 to 24 who have been diagnosed with Cancer. The support given to Alexandra during her illness by the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey was without fault. We the Trust and her many friends are committed to raising as much money as possible to help other children in similar circumstances. Alexandra was able to benefit from a number of small charities. A personal shopper day at Top Shop. She was so excited when she came home explaining her day. She was able to have a real hair wig to feel 'normal' for her school prom and was so proud of the MAC laptop she was given. Alexandra requested it because she had every intention, when she recovered, of studying photography as an A level. These donations made her happy and gave her something positive to focus on, a distraction which helped her cope mentally with the enduring treatment. This is the aim of our Trust, to raise ‘Smile Money’. We want to give something to young people being treated for cancer . Maybe it will be another Mac Laptop or a weekend away for the family. We want to gift a memory.
