Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January 2012 I was medically discharged from the RAF having served as a Frontline Helicopter Pilot for 11 years in both Iraq and Afghanistan. My career came to an end when I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease. Two major back operations later and struggling to come to terms with the end of my dream job, I was then told I would also never run again.
Feeling like everything I enjoyed in life was being ripped away from me I decided to prove the doctors wrong.
The Rat Race Scotland Coast to Coast Adventure Challenge is my way of reclaiming some of my life back. I’m not in it to win it, I’m in it to prove to myself that I CAN enjoy running again and my back injury isn’t going to stop me.
The two day challenge consists of the following:
Day 1:
11km Run
77km Bike (Off Road & Road)
3km Kayak
Total Vertical Ascent/Descent: +1899m (6230ft)/-1874m (6148ft)
Day 2:
55km Bike (Off Road & Road)
23km Run
1.5km Kayak
Total Vertical Ascent/Descent: +1402m (4600ft)/-1424m (4672ft)
This challenge is also the perfect opportunity to raise money for the Royal Air Force
Benevolent Fund – a charity very close to my heart.
