Established in memory of John David McGladrigan (26th May 1985-9th August 2004). John was on a Lasallian Developing World Project in Kaleo, Ghana 2004. On the final day, John tragically drowned whilst in the sea.
Whilst in Kaleo, one of the young boys - Ivan, whom John had befriended asked him to stop smoking. John promised, and said the money he saved he would send back to Ghana to enable Ivan and another boy - Eddie to continue with their education. In honour of this promise The John John Trust was set up to support the education of children and young people throughout Africa.
It has grown and flourished and is led by a group of young trustees, John's friends. We now sponsor several young people from Ghana, Kenya, Zambia and Uganda. All of our students come from vulnerable backgrounds and living situations, we endeavor to continue supporting bright individuals who would otherwise not receive an education. TJJT has also funded local initiatives in our partner countries such as classroom buildings, school infrastructure and supplies and salaries for local individuals making a contribution to further education of the their communities . We don't believe in handouts, but we realise the strength of successful partnerships.
We rely on the knowledge and experience of the communities we support and we utilize the amazing support we receive to develop these lasting partnerships. TJJT believes in providing an opportunity, to continue John's wish that all should be equal in education.
We are constantly on the look out for new sponsorship opportunities, fundraising initiatives and ways to get YOU involved in our work.
We are so very grateful to everyone who supports us, and know those we are supporting are grateful to you all also.
