Tracie's marathon

London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
My sister, Louise, founded her charity Give a dog a bone…and an animal a home (GADAB) back in 2013, when she saw the increasing numbers of older people struggling with loneliness and the rise in animals in shelters. Initially, the charity supported the over 60s with the rehoming of animals in need, helping with paperwork or regular funding for food, vets bills etc... Since then it has grown and won numerous awards in recognition of the work they do. The past few years have seen the extension into focal points for the charity with the opening of 3 community spaces, where anyone can stop in for a cup of tea and a chat or join in with an organised dog walk.
I’ve visited the Shawlands space and witnessed the impact GADAB has on the local community there. The beach dog walk was so a rewarding; listening to the older generation chatting and seeing the dogs with a new lease of life was amazing.
During lockdown the over 60s needed support more than ever. GADAB maintained contact with them through Keep in Touch calls and Sunshine Packs which included treats, small gifts and letters of support from the local community. The response was overwhelming with subscribers crediting GADAB with brightening their day and making them feel less alone.
Having recently relied heavily on my own “community” I know that GADAB is a life line to so many. Now more than ever, we need to support those around us, friend or stranger, to feel welcome, loved and heard and GADAB does this in spades! I am in awe of the work Louise and her team do and will be immensely proud to run in their name in October.
This will be my second marathon so I’ve set myself a target of 4hrs…(26 min off my first) now it’s in writing I’ll have to do it!! Your donations and hopefully music choices will push me harder to achieving this ❤️🎼🤘🏼
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT. Much love xxx
