Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page; I will be undertaking a trek this year to the Indian Himalayas.
The fundraising is in aid of Candlelighter's which we as a family became aware of when my Daughter fell ill at 9 years old with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia some and spent a lot of time in St James Hospital Leeds, on the ward looked after by Candlelighter's.
She has gone on and made a full recovery, she is now married, works as a Dental Nurse and with a beautiful 2 year old daughter.
Established in 1976, Candlelighter's is a charity formed and run by parents of children who have or have had cancer, ex-patients and the medical staff who treat them. Based in Yorkshire, Candlelighter's provides essential services and support to children with cancer and their families.
I was asked by a good friend 10 years ago to join him on a trek to Sikkim in the Himalayas for a charity trek, and it was such an life changing experience and for such a good cause that we have continued to do a trek each year for since, Machu Picchu, Cambodian jungle, Escambray Mountains, Cuba, Burma, Sahara Desert, Nicaragua and Namibia, now we have decided to return to the Indian Himalayas in Sikkim in November 2019.
In November 2019, we will be undertaking a bespoke Trek in the Indian Himalayas, Sikkim is a window onto the Himalayas. Our trekking challenge has been specifically designed and will be a highly challenging trek with very limited road access.
Our experience here should combine the physical challenge with a great cultural experience; more details to follow.
Many people think these Treks are a holiday, but I can assure you there is no room service, nor en-suite facilities unless you class a tent with a hole in the ground as such,
and when you’re in there, you’re not always alone and I don’t mean fellow trekkers, the walking, climates and altitudes are tough, along with the local critters (and they do get everywhere, and I mean everywhere), but we have a target to achieve and this is why were prepared to tough it out as our bit of discomfort for a week is by far outweighed by what the kids have to go through back home.
Our family and friends have been fully supported our constant fundraising attempts and many thanks to them and for putting up with me
