Story
In October I'll be taking part in the Lake District Triple Challenge to raise money for Veterans with Dogs. The challenge involves:
- Climbing to the summit of Old Man of Coniston, 10km, approx. 3-4 hours
- Mountain bike 12 km through Grizedale Forest, including the lung-pumping ascent of the hill into the forest, approx. 2 hours
- Kayak for 1.5km around Coniston Water, approx. 1.5 hours
The fantastic charity I'm supporting is Veterans With Dogs. The charity trains and provides assistance dogs for current and former members of the British Armed Forces with service-related mental health conditions. Veterans With Dogs' assistance dog programme is the first of its' kind in the UK. They're helping Veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and other mental health conditions, cope better with their symptoms, enabling them to lead more independent lives. Assistance dogs allow people with disabilities, whether visible or not, to achieve an improved level of independence and safety.
The PALS (Partner Animal Life Skills) Programme trains dogs for certain tasks such as initiating their partners daily routine to medication reminders or to recognise and respond to anxieties displayed in their veteran such as panic attacks and nightmares. All dogs are matched and trained to their own partner to ensure the needs of the Veteran is met.
If you would like to help me support Veterans for Dogs and sponsor me in the Lake District Challenge, any donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
