Everyone has a story behind why they support a specific charity... well here's mine.
I grew up with my best friend, Susie, from the age of four. She found out she had ovarian cancer when she was 14, and fought a losing battle for three years. I watched her and her family suffer through the physical and emotional pain of the inevitable. She was one of the kindest people I have known, and a complete hero till the very end. Just as I had started to come to terms with this sad truth, my grandmother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I watched again, helpless, as this brutal disease stole her away from us.
What they both went through is something I would never wish upon anyone. It's painful, aggressive, and clearly unforgiving. A lot of women refer to it as the 'silent killer' - a fear we should never have to live with. Target Ovarian Cancer is the national ovarian cancer charity, working to save lives and helping women diagnosed to live their lives to the full. They are involved in research to find new treatments and improve early diagnosis, as well as providing support to those who have sadly been targeted by this disease.
A small sum of £20 could help provide free resources for women with ovarian cancer, and support for their families.
£50 could allow 200 people to learn about the symptoms of ovarian cancer and enable earlier diagnosis, hopefully giving them a future.
£300 could allow 3 women to have thier genes sequenced and screened for genetic mutations which may lead to ovarian cancer.
With your help, we can save lives. Please support me in running the half marathon in London this September; a challenge i'm sure I will struggle with!
Help me to do this for a cause very close to my heart - every penny counts.
Thank you for your support!
