Fund Raising for Local Lifeboat Crew

Marathon Des Sables 2022 · 25 March 2022 to 4 April 2022 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have spent most of my working life at sea, working on the dock-side or volunteering for local lifeboat stations. I plan to volunteer for SARA in the next year, but am unable to at the moment. Instead, I hope to support the work of the rescue crews by raising some money to help buy new PPE and rescue equipment.
The Marathon des Sables is known as "the worlds toughest foot race" and involves running/jogging/walking/crawling 250km through the Sahara Desert over 6 days. The Sahara Desert can get up to 50 degrees C during the day so it is hot! Plus, you have to carry everything you need for the week with you (including sleeping bag, all your food, changes of clothes etc.). The only thing that is provided during the race is a bivouac (tent) and water (which is handed out at the start of each day).
I have attempted this race before, in 2014 ,when I had spent most of the proceeding 6 months at sea (working on a ship) down in the Southern Ocean and Antarctic Ocean....The heat in the Sahara beat me, although I did complete 3 marathons in 3 days, which I took as a win.
In 2022 I will be trying again.
Now I am a mum of two boys, I have a full distance (Iron Man distance) triathlon under my belt and I am older and wiser and I will not stop until I cross the finish line (or collapse trying).
This is going to involve a lot of early morning runs, running with a full kit bag and running with lots of layers on (to try to simulate the heat of the Sahara in the UK winter period).
I plan to include a few runs from my house to the lifeboat station as a signifier of my support to SARA.
Please help me to raise as much as possible for this amazing rescue service which combines land and marine rescue in a single organisation and receives no funding from the government.
