Story

On the 13th May 2023 I will be taking part in the National Three Peaks Challenge in 24 hours.  The Three Peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon)  are the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales and have a total ascent of 9,800ft (3000m).  The challenge  is to climb each of these three peaks – one after the other.

When I signed up for this, it was just going to be a bit of fun. I saw it as an adventure with a group of girlfriends; a challenge I’d be proud of and a goal that my children would see me achieve.

However, in December last year my mum was diagnosed out the blue with pancreatic cancer. It was a huge shock for her, our family, and friends.  My mum has received excellent medical care and after a successful operation to remove the tumour, she is now on chemotherapy for the next 6 months.  With this disease comes a lifestyle change and worry for the rest of her life.   Not everyone is as fortunate to receive the medical care that my mum is having, so what started as a walking adventure is now also an opportunity for me to raise money to help those who face pancreatic cancer and desperately need medical care.

The charity name is Fiorina Fund at the Royal Free Charity. The fund was created in legacy of Fiorina Elliott who lost her battle with pancreatic cancer in September 2009. It supports essential work and research into pancreatic cancer at the Royal Free London under the direction of Mr Kito Fusai, specialist in Hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery.  Please find more information here on their website.

I am fitting in my training where I can, between being mum to 3 boys and full time work but I’m determined to complete this challenge and to raise as much money as I can.  I am aware so many sponsorship links get circulated, but I hope you might be able to make a donation of whatever amount.  I promise, as I walk up and down the 3 mountains (which for everyone that knows me, knows it will be no easy task!) that I will have in mind all your donations and they will help give me the determination I need to get through it! Thank you so much in advance for all your kind donations, Tania x
