Story
Awamu’s purpose is to ensure children in the slums of Kampala (and the women who care for them) receive the education and skills vital for their future earning potential. At school we are inspired by this social enterprise project and we make craft and foods that we sell to raise money for Awamu.
Last week I met Florence. She cares for 15 children in her household, most arriving orphaned, neglected, abused or suffering trauma. I asked her, ‘How do you manage this?’ She replied, ‘I am not sure how I manage it but I make time for each child, every day. We draw three problems, talk about them and seek resolutions always. There is chaos, much laughter and I am so proud of what they are achieving.’ Her words inspired me and I think about Florence every day.
On Saturday, 29th September, Keira & I will be taking part in the WOLF run in Nutley. 10km would be a challenge in itself but throw in thick mud, lakes & huge obstacles; it will really test mental and physical strength, skill & stamina. Keira & I don’t tend to run, unless it’s an emergency! Brrrr... right, here we go.
Please help Keira and I to help Florence, her children and others like them.
Thank you for your support!
