If you'd like to come and support me on the day then the triathlon is being held at Olympos Kings Leisure Centre, Moat Road, East Grinstead, RH19 3LN. You can't park at the centre on the day but all town centre car parks are within walking distance. My start time is 7am but I'm anticipating being out of the pool and off on my bike but 7.30 at the latest. I should hopefully be back at the centre between 8.30 and 9am to set off on my run. My Race number is 106. Simon will have his mobile so if you want to meet up with him give him a call. If you'd like more details on the race please check out www.egtri25.com
As most of you know Glenn Ashenden past away last year. He had Cystic Fibrosis and it was complications of this that lead to his death. A lot of people that knew Glenn were completely unaware of his condition and those that did know never really considered the possiblity he'd die young because he never let it control his life and stop him doing anything. He well and trully LIVED life and never made excuses.
As a teenager I was extremely athletic and even ran for Kent! I've wanted for a while to take part in a challenging athletic event but age, children and loads of other excuses have got in the way of me getting off my backside. Glenn's death has been a reality check so no more excuses! (And if I can raise some money for Cystic Fibrosis in the process then that's great!)
Why a triathlon I hear you say! Well, I felt that if I'm going to ask people to sponsor me to do something it shouldn't be something that I could just do without really having to work hard. And believe me, it's hard! I am training harder for this than I have for anything for a very long time and it's not been easy but I'm beginning to feel the triathlon is now acheviable.
I will be doing the East Grinstead Sprint Triathlon on Sunday 15th May.
500m swim/26k cycle/5k run.
I have been training with the help of;
Geoff (the ex army gym instructor) who is pushing my stamina and making me go the extra bit when I feel I've run out of steam (and tears).
Lara (the super duper swimming instructor) who is helping me perfect my stroke in the water and breathing techniques so I don't drown basically.
Simon who has been teaching me to cycle basically! So far the majority of my cycle training has been on the gym bike that doesn't have gears!!! Oh and a much bigger, comfier saddle!!!
Wish me luck!
