On Saturday July 24th 2021 team Petal will be taking on their next challenge which is to hike 102km in 24 hours!!
The team that consists of Scott and Karen Woodberry, Nicky Kalter, Ryan Birnie, Abby Adams, Andrew Smith, Sharon Phillips, Oliver Astill, Russel Butts, Gareth and Claire Taylor will be entering the Ultra South West coast to coast challenge where they will start in Minehead on the north coast of Somerset and finish in Dawlish on the south coast of Somerset! They will start early on the Saturday morning and will have to complete the course by the Sunday morning ( 24hours ).
The team are looking for your support as they are trying to raise as much as possible to help cancer related charities with much needed funds!
One member of team Petal is Nicky ! She and her husband Stephen sadly lost their son Finlay aged 11 in March 2020 to a rare form of cancer therefore Petal want to dedicate every penny raised to 2 amazing charities that have supported them through the most heartbreaking of times.
The first charity is called Latch who are a children’s cancer charity that supports children receiving treatment for cancer and offers full support for the families affected.
The second charity is called Dreams and Wishes who are dedicated to helping seriously ill children by making their dreams and wishes come true.
Finlay was a beautiful, bright and humorous young boy who loved automobiles, especially cars, aircraft and the Titanic. He had an incredible knowledge of these well beyond his years, perfectly demonstrated when discussing the electronics of the Mercedes F1 car steering wheel with Lewis Hamilton. He had a dark sense of humour, such as liking the Black Night scene from Monty Python and always liked being teased by his grandad Jock.
Just over 2 years ago after complaining about knee pain he was diagnosed with having a very rare aggressive form of cancer, not only in his knee but also in his groin. Over the course of about a year he took each challenge that cancer threw at him with awe inspiring determination, whether that be losing his hair, 2nd line chemotherapy, radiotherapy and finally the toughest of all when he had to have his leg amputated, the remainder which he nicknamed Kermit. Even going through all this he maintained his endearing sense of humour, smile and determination, but sadly he lost his unwinnable battle against it on 20 March 2020.
With your help and fantastic donation no matter how big or small we can help others living with cancer and their families so any support will be hugely appreciated!!
Much love
