Story

In August 2023 we will be ticking something off the bucket list as Matt and I will be undertaking the 2023 Two-Ball Banger Rally challenge - Original Route.

The Challenge

We will be driving a car purchased for a maximum of £768 (give or take) from Saint-Omer in Northern France, through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy (taking in the famous Stelvio Pass) and on to Monaco, before finishing in Nice.

Mavis (yes, we have named the car) has been purchased and over the coming months will undergo some repair and maintenance work, together with some fun modifications and "cosmetics" in order to make her ready for the rally. She is a 1999 Mercedes CLK 320 and we think she will serve us well.

The Charity

While undertaking this challenge is very much something I especially have always wanted to do, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to raise some money for charity and we have decided to do so for beatSCAD, which is charity very close to mine and Matt's heart (no pun intended).

Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD) is an under-diagnosed heart condition that can't currently be predicted or prevented.

SCAD has been reported across a wide age range (18-84 years) but the majority of case are in young-to-middle-aged women. SCAD patients have few or none of the traditional risk factors associated with heart disease. More research is needed to understand by fit and healthy people suddenly develop SCAD.

SCAD can be fatal, cause heart failure, cardiac arrest, require heart bypass surgery, stents or long-term medical management.

You can find out more about SCAD and the charity by visiting www.beatscad.org.uk

Fundraising

We will be covering all travel and accommodation costs ourselves, while lead sponsor BuildX (SW) Ltd will cover some of the maintenance and repair costs needed for Mavis. We are sell ing advertising space on the car with 100% of the donations going to the charity. If you are interested in this, please contact Jon Rosevear via email jon@buildxsw.co.uk.
