We support youth clubs in Northamptonshire to develop & educate all young people

Story

Hello, Pete Biz here, of Team Chariot. Normally Team Chariot enters quite physically demanding outdoor events to give encouragement and support to the great work of military based charities.

This time it’s the London Marathon 2019 event. Still wearing boots and rucksack as I wore for the last event (the 3MC), Team Chariot (just me) is hoping to raise the profile and funds for the brilliant work of NAYC who help 1000’s of young people in youth clubs & church groups. The youth benefit from NAYC’s professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm, in the county of Northamptonshire.

NAYC (Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs) provide various fun activities for Youth Clubs & support their leaders in the work with the youth. These may range from organising games nights to outdoor all-weather activities, weekend trips away to training emerging youth leaders, as well as specific group leader training courses.

Harry Whittaker prayed for & started NAYC for the youth. Now 50 years on his legacy is carried on by a small group of staff who have caught Harry’s vision. Yes NAYC staff get to have fun creating games & activities to help kids be a part of the group. Building self esteem & respect in many kids lives, showing them that they are accepted for who they are. They also have a heart to encourage and a desire to help young people build on their capabilities. None of us are perfect, but NAYC help young people to see that we all have something great to benefit the world around us.

I work for the organisation behind NAYC, Action Centres UK. I see constant commitment from all of NAYC’s staff to provide the best possible experience for the youth clubs and groups that they serve.

The aim of NAYC is to help and educate young people, especially, but not exclusively through their leisure-time activities, to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capacities that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and as members of society. NAYC sets up new groups and supports existing youth clubs. The involvement of young people in the planning and delivery of our work as well as being part of the decision making process is paramount to the success of all we do NAYC area leaders work with over 16,000 young people to deliver engaging sessions in more than 330 youth clubs across the county. Area leaders deliver a wide range of activities from discussion groups on topics such as anti-bullying, to craft workshops, sports sessions and games such as human hungry hippos! Sessions aim to develop friendships, increase confidence and empower young people to realise the skills and talents they have. Older youth club members are also able to attend the Emerging Leaders Training which is designed to recognise those with leadership qualities and nurture these skills. NAYC also delivers various training courses to club leaders, on topics ranging from cyber safety, dealing with difficult behaviours and volunteer recruitment amongst others. Providing safe, quality provision for young people is key and we strive to ensure people have the essential skills so this can take place. Please join us as we strive to continue supporting Northamptonshire's young people.
