Story
This year will be a our 5th in doing the Rowans/Ruby Ride. The Hospice, and the services they provide are extremely special and help so many families get through some very difficult times. This ride is slightly different for us in that it will be the first time that Alice is attempting to complete the ride on her own bike.
There has been over £2000 raised on Sues Memory so far which is fantastic and thanks to all who have taken part in events and supported us previously.
On the 30th September 2012, my family completed the Ruby Ride, as part of my wife, Sue's birthday! Just a few weeks later she was diagnosed with a late stage cancer of both the bowel and the liver!
She spend 10 months fighting the illness, and after several rounds of difficult chemotherapy she surprised everybody and started the first of potentially several stages of surgery! Whilst she recovered from the first stage of surgery better than anyone could have hoped for, the cancer was also moving fast, and the second stage couldn't be completed because of its aggressive nature!
She fought hard to recover from the operations, and enjoyed her days out with family and friends before her health started to deteriorated. Right to the end she fought hard to stay at home to enable her to spend time with all her family, but was eventually admitted to the Hospice and died peacefully the following day.
Her final few days couldn't have worked out any better if we had planned it! The Hospice at Home team, the Hospice themselves and the Macmillan Staff were instrumental in pulling out all the stops in allowing this to happen, without there input and assistance this would have been a very different story!
So whilst the anniversary of Sues death is still very fresh in our minds, we are determined to try and complete The Ruby Ride once again!
