This year I’m participating in the Admiral, Newport Half Marathon on Sunday 4th March along with my closest friends and family in support of St David’s Hospice Care with the aim of raising over £5,000. Our team (#TeamTrish) who are running, jogging and walking the Half Marathon range in age from 17 – 59.

For those of you who know me well, you will know that my beautiful Mum (Trish) was sadly diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer in November 2017; she unfortunately lost her life to this terrible disease on Christmas Eve 2017, 5 weeks after being diagnosed. She was only 56 years old.

Mum was always an outgoing, positive, kind and fun loving person; there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for us as a family or anything she couldn’t achieve, she really was a go-getter in life. I cannot begin to express how life changing cancer is, not only for the person who’s diagnosed with it, but also for the closest family members around them. But cancer doesn't just stop when somebody passes away. It lives on in the hearts of the family and friends of those who are left behind, and for me, there is a massive Mum shaped gap that I have to live with every day knowing that my Mum, who was also a Wife, a Sister and a Daughter was taken so prematurely from us.

Cancer is an incredibly cruel and unbiased disease which all of you, either know someone, a friend or family member who has had or has been affected by it. Cancer often doesn’t give any warning symptoms until it’s just too late, which sadly was the case with my Mum.

Running this half marathon will never bring my Mum back, but by raising this money for St David’s it will help other patients like my Mum and families like my own get through such a difficult time. I really hope that in my lifetime we find a cure for cancer, that way nobody else will have to live out all of their most incredible life moments without their wonderful Mum, like I will.

St David’s provided so much support to my Mum and my family in the run up to Christmas and it’s a charity we have always supported. The team of nurses who looked after Mum couldn’t do enough for her or us, which is why my family and friends now want to give something back to this brilliant charity.

In the past I’ve always put my hand in my pocket for all the worthy causes friends and family have taken part in and therefore it's now my turn to rattle my collection tin, wave my sponsorship form and to bombard social media with this page.

Even the smallest of donations will be gratefully received, so please help me, my friends and my family reach our target and exceed it in support of our Team (#TeamTrish).
