When was the last time you saw an elephant?
This huge, gentle and intelligent creature is one of the most magical living things on our planet. They exist in some of the last wild spaces on earth. But along with their forest homes, they are quickly and quietly disappearing.
Like you, 'Team Twin' believes we should take care of our planet and the animals we're sharing it with. There's a reason why 90% of Asian elephants have vanished off the face in the last 100 years: US! Our wonderful human race is growing at a frightening pace. We're also getting richer.
So it comes down to simple mathematics. The human population is growing, but the earth isn't. We're right behind the work of Elephant Family because we see how their projects are helping both people and wildlife. Asia is at the coal face. This part of the world is seeing both population explosions and rapid economic growth. Wildlife is paying the price. Asian elephants are big enough and smart enough to fight back - with nowhere to go, starving herds have no choice but to raid crops and vent their frustration. But this is causing major problems for people - and they are often poor, subsistence farmers who loose their crops and homes. Worse still, the clashes are often fatal.
Elephant Family's projects prove it doesn't have to be this way. They have a big picture plan: to reconnect Asia's great forests. Thin strips of land called 'wildlife corridors' act as life lines and allow animals to reach the fresh feeding ground. This masterplan depends on local people. Elephant Family is working hand in hand with local people to build new homes out of the danger zone. The projects work, but many more are urgently needed.
Thank you for getting behind us and investing in a future where the thrill of seeing a wild tiger, elephant, rhino or orangutan remains open. It's a magical planet. We want it to stay that way.
