Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.We are raising money for The Royal Free Hospital and the  Neuroendocrine Tumour Research in memory of our loving Dad George Baines.

The funeral is on Friday 1st of may at south Essex crematorium we are only allowed 10 family members at this time we will be holding a memorial service at a later date

Dad was diagnosed with a rare type of neuroendocrine cancer called Merkel Cell Carcinoma in 2016. He fought with such determination and strength for four years, but unfortunately passed away at his home on the 6th April 2020.

Dad was known for being a gentleman, he was kind, generous and funny. Always loved to have a laugh and make people smile. Dad was a very keen sportsman he loved swimming as a young man and swam for Essex, he played football for Brentwood Town in his early years and then a Men’s Saturday team Craven at Barking,  Dad also had a great love of golf, Dad loved his golf society days back in the day and playing at the golf club with his mates. Dad had made so many great friends along the way. Another big love of Dads life was the markets not only was it a job for 40 years and more but it was his life. He turned up rain or shine and always put on a good display. Dad had made such good friends they were more like family to him. The markets won’t be the same without his banter and jokes, but his memory will always live on.

Our Dad had such a big heart, and always a listening ear to those in need. He wanted to support people and to help in any way he could.

He endured a lot of treatment whilst at the Royal Free hospital. Dad had surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and was involved in a clinical trial for immunotherapy. He never grumbled about anything and was so brave.

Dads wishes to have just family flowers at the funeral and to raise money and give back to the Royal Free for everything they did for him.

The Neuroendocrine Tumour Research at the Royal Free Hospital has an active research programme, which is dedicated to investigating further as to what causes neuroendocrine cancer, how it grows, how it can be detected earlier and for the development of new therapies. Grant 311
