Story

Terry was born at Rose Villas near the shard bridge overlooking the beautiful river Wyre. His parents, Arthur and Annie had three children Terry, who was the eldest, Arthur and Leslie, all of who are sadly deceased. Funnily enough there were 3 years and 3 months between each boy. His parents moved to Dunderdales farm when Terry was 18 months old and there he remained happily until he met and married Val at the age of 27 years. Most of his young life was taken up with horses, ploughing matches and breaking horses to the cart, the plough and the ride. He excelled in all these things and it was widely said by Val that he more affinity to horses than a human beings.

He started showing and ploughing at the tender age of 10 years old but the great art of shire horse showing gradually took over. In this endeavour he was second to none. He would think nothing of taking 8 horses to shows 3 or 4 times per week in show season.  Milking cows at either ends of the day so the showing days were very long days.

When he got married to Val the farm was sold and he had to find another way of making ends meet. He toiled relentlessly in many jobs and he had the great help and support of Val. He had three children Gerard, Philip and Claire of whom he was very proud.

His gift of horsemanship has meant that he has judged horses all over the world. From Garstang,UK to the lovely open grassland of Australia, a country he always loved and had a big influence on. His most memorable experience was judging in this huge impressive country at the New Olympic Stadium in Sydney.

With the mare, Burnham Beauty Terry has won an unprecedented 35 county championships in either 1965  and to this day this has yet to be beat. This consigns Terry to the great history books of the shire horse world. Terry is the last great shire horse showman of the Gardners.
