Story

If you're reading this I just want to start by saying thanks for at least giving this page a visit. But here is why I urge you to go one step further and donate. Even if you only donate 1 or 2 pounds it would be hugely appreciated. Even if 200 people donated just 50p we would have a game changing amount of money for the cause.

2 years ago I traveled out to Uganda to volunteer with disadvantaged children for a few months. It was a fantastic experience and I met some incredible individuals. Adults and children. Some of those individuals became friends of mine and I'm still in touch with them today but the person that I want to tell you about today is a serious gem of a woman, and her name is Sister Olive. Sister is a classic 'bend over backwards for anyone' type of character and this is reflected in the work that she does day in, day out. You see Sister is responsible for the care of over a dozen young children, the youngest of which is only 5 years old, and the oldest 19. Her responsibilities include finding school fees for the children as well as finding funds for basic necessities such as food, clothing, transport etc. This is something that Sister has been struggling with for a long time and unfortunately the stress of having to find the money for the children is having an incredibly negative impact on her physical health. As a result she has been having severe issues with her heart and has been in and out of hospital for the past few months. This in itself is not cheap in a country like Uganda and then if you add in the added expense of her medication, this is a financial burden that Sister cannot cope with. The less money Sister has the more stressed and therefore ill she becomes, and the more ill she becomes the less money she has. As you can see this is a vicious cycle that I fear will not end without some help and support. Sister is an a lot of pain and and without funding her life is in danger. If anything were to happen to her the children will have no one. This situation is both severe and urgent. Sisters medication ran out 2 days ago and she needs £75 to cover her treatment and medication so she has the necessary strength to go on fighting for the children.

I apolagise if I'm sounding dramatic here but in truth all I've done is state the reality. I know times aren't the easiest for most of us right now and very few of us are enjoying the financial muscle that we've been used to before the virus hit but I guarantee that what we're up against (whilst it may be incredibly tough for many) is nothing compared to the daily struggles that many are facing in countries like Uganda. Even at our very lowest we can still turn to the state. Those who haven't been able to work have received support. Many are not so lucky. My fear is that if we don't come to the aid of Sister Olive and the children under her care, no one will and the consequences for them all would be horrific. Whatever you can afford would be appreciated immeasurably by those concerned.

Thanks for reading and take good care of yourself in these challenging times.
