Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Those of you who already know me will be aware that I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in April this year.  Since then I have had a mastectomy and reconstruction, and am now currently undergoing Chemotherapy.

Throughout this journey, I have been absolutely taken aback by the support not only from my amazing family and friends around me, but also from complete strangers through many different charities.

Breast Friends and family is a local charity who aim to provide the little extras to make the whole experience a bit more comfortable such as heart cushions for post surgery and supportive session's with Carol and Meg on scalp care, including the opportunity to try on different bandannas, two of which I could take home with me.  They also fund semi-permanent eyebrow tattoos in conjunction with Louise at Natrabrow, so when the inevitable happens, it is one less thing to worry about. Louise is another example of someone who tries to help those with cancer by giving up her time to perform this service.

Tim and I felt we wanted to give something back to this amazing charity.  My hair is going to fall out in the next few days and rather than wait for it to happen, I wanted to make a positive and shave my head for sponsorship.  Following professional advice, I have been advised to have a very short cut rather than shave my head, which I am now going to do.  However, my incredible husband, Tim has offered to shave his head completely to raise funds too.

Please help us raise funds to allow Breast Friends & Family to support more women when they need it most.

Thank-you for your support.

Lynne and Tim.

About the charity

Breast Friends and Family support breast cancer patients at St John’s Hospital in Livingston, through diagnosis, treatment and recovery; to provide the little things that make a big difference. Breast Friends and Family has been setup by Hazel, her sister Mandy, mother Sylvia and daughter Holly. Hazel was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2015 which shocked the family but the challenges this diagnosis brought were faced with a steely determination to keep life going as normal and provide Hazel with the support she needed through treatment and recovery. The family realised that patients are supported by a number of cancer charities, each one giving additional support that patients are not even aware that they need. They began fund raising, by dancing, running, walking, knitting, sewing and organising events in support of many cancer charities. Hazel was given lots of support from a local charity based at St John’s Hospital in Livingston. As she recovered she wanted to help and support this local charity so that others like her, having a breast cancer diagnosis, were helped in the way that she was. Sadly this charity is no longer running. Hazel and her family and friends are now determined to make sure that all patients diagnosed with breast cancer at St John’s, are given the kind of help they don’t even realise they need. Providing the little things that make a big difference.
