The BIG Thomas's Sleep Out · 15 June 2018 to 17 June 2018 ·
Our school Aims and Values stress the desire to embed a sense of social responsibility and a culture of respect, humility and of being givers not takers.
Every year our pupils support a chosen charity through fundraising activities and, where possible, hands-on involvement. We believe at the pupil level, charity is about education first, providing an awareness of the world they live in and how they, as individuals and groups, can make a difference, however small.
This year our school charity is Spires. Spires have been helping homeless people in London since the late 1980s. From their day centre in Streatham, a dedicated team of professionals and volunteers provide a wide range of practical services to vulnerable men and women.
Organising Christmas- from dinner to decorations, campaigns for jeans and sleeping bags, mini mudders and cake sales have been some of our pupil efforts so far.
Our next fundraiser, The Big Thomas’s Sleep-out is our way to reflect on the issues of homelessness that have been highlighted to us all throughout the year. The aim is that the experience will give our pupils an idea of how it might actually feel to spend a night sleeping rough and will hopefully be both memorable and valuable to all those who opt to take part. Equally, it is not limited to pupils, rather a worthwhile challenge for parents and teachers.
