CAR 47 ‘THE GIRLS IN PEARLS’ RHINO CHARGE TEAM
RHINO CHARGE 2017
IN MEMORY OF JULIE ERSKINE AND BERENIKA STEFANSKA
Julie and Berenika were team members of the ‘Girls in Pearls’
who we unexpectedly and tragically lost last year. This year, we will be remembering them as we charge through the bush and up and down the dongas as we raise money to support the Rhino Charge Charitable Trust whose motto is “Helping Humans live in Harmony with Wildlife”.
As always, we will enter in the unmodified vehicle category,
which we won in 2012, and will also compete for the Coupe des Dames trophy, driving in our trusty 1957 Landrover called ‘WACUS’.
This will be ‘Wacus’ 23rd. Rhino Charge having initially been entered by Polish Prince Sapieha who was one of the oldest Entrants to date. His three daughters, Teresa, Maryjka and Anula, were part of the original team and took over the entry when he decided to retire.
The ‘Girls in Pearls’ Team have become one of the best known
and loved teams on the Rhino Charge and have been featured numerous times on Polish TV.
We “Charge” adorned in pearls, bright lipstick and a sense
of humour and gladly lend a hand to our fellow competitors en route although it is often us who need the helping hand!
The Rhino Charge raises money to fence and protect the water
catchment areas of Kenya. They have funded a 440 km fence around the Aberdare Mountain Range, a 45 km fence around Mount Eburu and are now undertaking the fencing of 490 kms around the Mount Kenya Game Park. Theses fences not only protect the forests and wildlife from incursions by humans, they also protect the neighbouring farms from incursions by wildlife – a win / win situation.
The habitat and wildlife of Kenya were very precious to both
Julie and Berenika and we will be extremely grateful for any donation to the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust through Car 47 ---The ‘Girls in Pearls’ Team .
