Brain Tumour Research is the leading voice of the brain tumour community and focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. We are campaigning to increase the national investment in research to £35 million per year and funding sustainable Centres of Excellence across the UK.

Story

Robert, Fiona, Laura (Nev’s son and daughters) ran The Great North Run in 2015. Our fundraising target was £2740, the cost of an entire days research at one of Brain Tumour Research UK's Centres of Excellence. We hit this target within a few weeks and now aim to raise £10,960 (400%) for four days research. We have been helped along the way with two 'Wear a Hat Day' events at CPI offices. In light of Neville’s sad passing, we hope to continue this page in his memory and continue to raise funds. In addition, we hope to raise funds for St. Oswalds hospice who provided phenomenal care and made sure he was comfortable throughout please see www.justgiving.com/NevilleHamlinMemorial for donations.

Thanks to all those who have donated so far, you have been very generous and thank you for your lovely comments.

 Neville's Story

On the 27th January, Dad (aged 53) was admitted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary A&E with severe migraines and unable to speak. He had no symptoms prior to this. A few hours later, we were informed that he had a brain tumour, and within two days he had the tumour removed. A week after, we were hit with the devastating news that he has a Grade 4 brain tumour (Glioblastoma Multiforme) that is incurable with a poor prognosis. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy halted the growth with Dad remained positive despite the situation. Due to complications, Dad was admitted to St. Oswalds hospice on 11th May 2016 and passed away peacefully on Tuesday 31st May. This is such an awful illness that has devastated us all and we would greatly appreciate if you could reach into your pockets and donate to Brain Tumour Research Charity.

"I am really proud of my children for setting up the website and running the Great North Run. I would like to thank everyone for their donations - I was really surprised by how little funding goes towards Brain Tumour Research when it is a major cancer killer. I am determined I am going to beat this and your thoughts and best wishes keep me going" - Nev

Brain Tumours in the UK

Brain tumour research in the UK is woefully underfunded with:

  • Brain tumour research receiving less than 1%(0.7%) of national cancer research spending in the UK
  • More people under 40 die of a brain tumour thanfrom any other cancer
  •  20% of all cancers spread to the brain
  • Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer ofUK children

 Why Brain Tumour Research UK?

Brain Tumour Research UK Centresare forming a new and powerful network, collaborating with each other and other institutes, both within the UK and internationally, in order to accelerate progress in brain tumour research in the UK and make a clinical difference.

How your donations will help

Every pound goes to support the vital work Brain Tumour Research UK are doing to help push forward the frontiers of scientific research and understanding for all brain tumours. With your support we will find a cure for brain tumours.

  • £300 will pay for the equipment used in one dayof research at one of our centres. From pipettes to petri-dishes - although simple, these items are absolutely vital to our researchers
  • £1,000 will cover the cost of publishing one peer-reviewed research paper. Sharing news of research progress means that scientists world-wide can benefit from each other's expertise and build a clearer picture of the pathways to a cure
  •  £2,740 pays for an entire day of research at one of their Centres of Excellence
