We support people to find a way forward to create opportunities across society

Story

Nearly 50 million people were worldwide are currently enslaved. We want to get the word out to more people that modern slavery exists, and how to stop it. Together, we can work towards a world free from slavery.

The 18th of October is Modern Slavery Awareness Day! To support this day, we are advocating, raising awareness, and fundraising at The Liberty Project:

- Our Swindon team will be attending a modern slavery awareness day, handing out flyers and giving talks.

- On the 14th we will be attending the A21 Walk For Freedom.

- We are providing free internal and external modern slavery training. Please email Libertymanagement@bcha.org.uk for more details.

- FINALLY - We are handing out temporary 'we are not for sale' tattoos for a small donation (£1 suggestion). We will be handing out temporary tattoos in the BCP area. These are a barcode with 'We Are Not For Sale' written underneath. We will be dropping these off to services, helping people put them on, and photographing teams with them on. We will then be promoting these images far and wide to raise awareness. In addition, whilst at services, we will offer a small talk on modern slavery and leave posters that help colleagues spot the signs of modern slavery. All we ask is for a small donation, this can be given in cash at the time, or though this Just Giving page.

Who Are We?

The Liberty Project supports potential victims of modern day slavery and human trafficking who are in The National Referral Mechanism. Or as we prefer to call them, survivors. We support men, women, and children, across the South West. We provide safe house accommodation and outreach support.

The Liberty Project provides people with more than just a safe place to stay. Whilst in The Liberty Project survivors receive support tailored to their individual needs. Our friendly team support with financial and legal advice, accessing services such as healthcare and counselling, helping with educational opportunities, and supporting survivors when engaging with the authorities pursing a criminal case against perpetrators. Amongst many more!

Our Support Workers have specialist knowledge and expertise of human trafficking and understand the impact this has on individuals, their children and families. We strive to promote a sense of self-choice and control, encouraging survivors to make informed choices. They will support survivors to build on the skills they have and help them to move forward with their life - whether this is returning to their home country, applying for Asylum, or providing support to help them resettle and find work.

The money will directly impact the lives of survivors of modern day slavery in The Liberty Project, having a huge positive impact. All proceeds will go towards wellbeing activities for survivors over the next 12 months.
