Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We did it!! In six days of cycling we covered a distance of 422 Km and climbed a total of 12,414 metres, that's more than the height of Everest!! Starting from Gijon we travelled a circular route taking in Villaviciosa, Cangas de Onis, including an extreme climb to the lakes Los Lagos; Las Arenas, Potes, another mighty climb to Fuente De, Ribadesella and back to Gijon. Non of this would have been possible wirthout the trusty support of our two back up drivers Derek Grant and Rod Bromfield.
If you're suffering from donor fatigue, just think how we're feeling!....This is the 8th year that we have once again beasted our bodies in the aid of a good cause. In previous years we have rowed the Thames, cycled from London to Paris, canoed the river Severn, rowed the Shannon in Ireland, canoed the massive Rio Ebro in Spain, rowed the Great Glenn in Scotland and rowed the Baltic archipelago in Denmark. So far we have raised over £30,000 for various charities. This year it's back to two wheels again, cycling the mountain range in northern Spain known as Los Picos de Europa, or the Peaks of Europe.
We continue with our chosen charity for the last two years, Prostate Cancer UK.
Prostate cancer accounts for one quarter of all cancers diagnosed in men; 37,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the UK each year; Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in UK men. Need we say more?
Our route in northern Spain this year has included some of the steepest passes, as used by the Tour of Spain bike race. Our team members age from 55 to 70 so getting this ageing peloton through the course was no mean feat. Sore legs, neck, back, feet and of course derrieres were gauranteed but all for a good cause!!
