This is my 2nd encounter of this walk, which I completed in 3hr 30 (in 2009), but this year I would like to better that time and do it 3hrs. If you know me I like my bed so to do this walk through the night its a challenge itself. Setting off at 00:00 (midnight) and hopefully finishing at 03:00, whilst other sane people will be in bed or stumbling out of the night club. I'll be walking through Preston, wearing my pink feather bower and due to the occasion I can't miss out the the famous "PINK" Hair, which I'm now known for.
WHY!!!!
Four years ago my Nana Died in St Catherines (7.6.2006), whilst she was only there 2 weeks, the care she had was fabulous in everyway. They made her comfortable and made us feel so at ease with everything. I would like to show my appreciation and thanks to the Hospice, even though you might say its their job. I was to certain extent.
About St Catherines:
Definition of 'palliative'
Palliative Care is the total care offered to patients suffering from diseases that have reached the stage where they are treatable but not curable. It is about quality of life and the alleviation of distressing symptoms within the framework of a co-ordinated service.
Palliative Care seeks, primarily, to neither hasten nor postpone death. It provides relief from pain and other distressing symptoms and integrates the psychological and spiritual aspects of care.
In addition it offers a support system to patients and relatives during the patient's illness and in bereavement.
Our Philosophy
The essence of Hospice care is improvement in the quality of life. This is achieved by the relief of pain and distress by specialised medical and nursing care and the provision of social, emotional and spiritual support for the patients and their carers. The uniqueness of each individual is acknowledged and their own needs identified. The care is implemented according to these needs. The period of care extends from the first contact and for as long as is necessary. All the statements of policy are aimed at providing the best possible care to encourage security, maintain dignity and enable each one to find peace.
