Story
Hi everyone
Thanks for visiting the Recipro Challenge page! The Recipro Team are attempting the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care on the 30th June 2012.
The challenge is going to be a tough one for Les, Beckie, Mike, Brendon, Paul and Lawrence so we’d appreciate any support you can give us!
The first part of the challenge will be the Wirral Coastal Walk in May, which is 15 miles around our peninsula coastline. This is just over a month before the ‘Big One’, so will give us an opportunity to see how behind in our training we are!
The Challenge will take us over the three highest peaks in Yorkshire:
Pen-y-ghent - 2,277ft
Whernside - 2,415ft
Ingleborough - 2,375ft
Our chosen charity is Marie Curie Cancer Care and we’d appreciate all donations no matter how small to help this worthwhile cause. They need to raise £10,000 every hour of every day to carry on their valuable care for terminally ill patients.
Marie Curie has 2,000 nurses in the UK and last year they worked for 1,200,000 hours caring for terminally ill patients, including half of all cancer patients who die at home.
They also have nine hospices and are the biggest provider of hospice beds outside the NHS. In total, Marie Curie spends over £80 million a year on its charitable activities of providing care as well as on research and development. The figure is overwhelming, but so is the comfort that the money can provide.
We’ll keep you posted with our progress, and we’ll be sure to post some photos of the challenges!
