George Paterson spent a total of 115 days in Kings Mill Hospitals Critical Care Unit following his diagnosis of COVID19. George was the last COVID patient to leave the Critical Care Unit and the longest patient to receive their care. Although George remains in hospital, he is now out of danger and although the road ahead may be long and winding, George and his family have the courage and determination to get George home.

George's family are an integral part of Samworth Church Academy; both his daughters were students with us and his wife Tonia is one of our wonderful receptionists.

It is Tonia, that inspired me to start this campaign. Her strength to come to work on the darkest of days, so she could try and function normally and encourage her daughters to do the same, is testament to her character and personality.

The realisation that she and her family may lose someone so dear is completely heartbreaking and yet here they all are, still fighting and showing that together, with our NHS, they can get through  this.

So now it's our turn to give back to our outstanding NHS, without whose support things would have been very different for the Paterson family.

On Thursday 22nd July, teams of students of all ages will complete 115 laps of the track between them, along with staff. 115 laps is 34,500 metres or just under 22 miles. Please if you can, support us in this event by donating to this JustGiving page it really will be appreciated.

Thank you Nigel Clough and Mansfield Town FC for backing our fundraising campaign.

All monies to go to KMH Critical Care Unit.
