We are a lifesaving emergency service to the people across East Anglia

Story

In October 2021, Munro Building Services sadly lost their Health & Safety Manager, Simon Wombwell. Simon was an incredibly well respected member of the Munro team and is dearly missed.

Simon suffered a sudden heart attack and leaves behind his wife, daughters and many more family and friends.

Simon’s family nominated East Anglian Air Ambulance & Royal Papworth Hospital as charities they wish to support due to the care they provided for Simon.

We wish to remember Simon and show our respect by trying to raise donations for the family’s elected charities.

Simon was a genuine, kind and decent person with a life-long love of walking in the hills and mountains of Britain. His passion for wild, mountainous places was first kindled through the Scout movement. As a 17 year-old Venture Scout he fell 600 feet down Snowdon and miraculously survived. Despite the lasting injuries from this fall, his enthusiasm was not dampened and he continued to walk.

This has provided inspiration for our fundraising activities.

We have put together a team to tackle the infamous National Three Peaks Challenge. We hope this tough event will raise a good sum for the charities, on behalf of Simon & his family.

The challenge dictates the three highest peaks in the UK are climbed within 24hours. The ascent & decent of Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) & Snowdon (Wales) will be tackled within this time frame.

The challenge is very demanding, not only do we need to be physically fit, we also need to move quickly on the mountains and ensure the transition between peaks is slick.

More can be found here, https://www.threepeakschallenge.uk/national-three-peaks-challenge/

The challenge includes,

  • 22 miles of hiking
  • 3167 meters of elevation
  • 467 miles of driving between peaks

38 people are aiming to take part in the event and form “The Simon Wombwell National Three Peaks Challenge Team” The event will be planned and organised by the 38 taking part.

Due to the scale of the event, it is likely the challenge will include the following,

  • 30 hikers
  • 8 drivers
  • 3 mini buses
  • Support vehicle

This is a significant undertaking both logistically, physically and mentally.

The event is to be undertaken in May 2022. We start the challenge in Scotland and tackle Ben Nevis on the 14th May, we finish the following day in Wales on Snowdon.

We would be incredibly grateful if you could donate to The Royal Papworth Charity and / or The East Anglian Air Ambulance and assist us in raising a significant sum on behalf of Simon & his family.

Donations big or small are welcome.

As we are raising funds for two charities, we’ve created independent pages for each, see the links below. Click on the donate button to take you through to the donation page for either the East Anglian Air Ambulance or the Royal Papworth Charity.

We are committed to raising an equal amount for each charity. Please consider keeping the totals raised equal when you donate.

We'd like to thank Simon's family for their support and for providing some of the words & images on this page. The image at the top of this page is of Simon's feet. It was taken by Simon as he enjoyed the view during one of his many walks.

Thank you for talking the time to read this.
