Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My father, Thompson Garande, strongly believed that Black education should be principally in the hands of Black educators. He was a strong community man and he thought Black education should be housed in an independent agency, not be under the direct control of politicians, that Black people, in general and educators, in particular, in the end had to be responsible for Black education.
When I left Zimbabwe for Geneva, Switzerland, he urged me to do my best to advance the interests and education of African people, in particular, and young people of all races in general. He was passionate about this and urged me to advance that cause via the World Alliance of YMCAs in Geneva, where I was going to work. I never really understood what he wanted me to do, until I was in London where I saw many Black people living in poverty. Since he died in 1999, I had never had the opportunity to kickstart some of the ideas he instilled in me; and wish to do that now via the London YMCA.
I have thus set up a JustGiving page to donate to the London YMCA where my efforts will benefit young Black people in the London area.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the YMCA and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now and help my father, Thompson's dream become a reality. I will be sending you updates of all donations sent to the YMCA.
