Story

I am supporting Rethink Mental Illness. Our mental Health is just as important as our physical health and millions of people are affected by this.  Here are some important statistics you need to know.

  • There were 6,639 suicides in the UK and Republic
    of Ireland in 2015, that's over 18 people every day!
  • The highest suicide rate in the UK was for men
    aged 40–44.
  • 10 million people in the UK are affected by
    anxiety disorder
  • By 2030 depression is predicted to be the
    world’s biggest health problem
  • 1 in 5 females aged 16–24 has an eating disorder
  • 75% of those with a mental health condition
    start developing it before the age of 18, 1 in 10 young people have a mental
    health condition

  • Other biological factors: some medical conditions or hormonal changes
  • Negative childhood experiences such as abuse or neglect
  • Trauma and stress
  • Drug and alcohol abuse
  • Social disadvantages, poverty or debt
  • Bereavement 
  • Severe or long-term stress
  • Long-term physical health condition 
  • Unemployment or losing your job  
  • Homelessness or poor housing 
  • Domestic violence, bulling or other abuse
