ZSL Streak for Tigers · 11 August 2016 ·

We’re ZSL, an international conservation charity, and our vision is a world where wildlife thrives. We’re working every day to achieve this, through our science, our field conservation around the world and engaging millions of people through our two Zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our ZSL London Zoo Tiger Streak 2016 JustGiving page.

Lynn and I will be running totally naked, apart from a pair of fluffy tiger ears and trainers, round London Zoo in August to raise funds and awareness for the plight of the few remaining Tigers in the wild, in particular those endangered in the Sumatran jungles where ZSL London Zoo has a conservation project. And the money goes to real, worthwhile help for the Tigers including anti-poaching teams. Find out more at  http://www.zsl.org/conservation/regions/asia/sumatran-tigers-in-berbak

This fundraising event started as a joke 3 years ago, Paul found the first ever event online back in 2013, sent Lynn the website link saying " You love Tigers, you could do this to help them lol" ....and the unexpected reply was "We're doing it !!"

Lynn was and still is absolutely petrified of doing this event, but she is more passionate about helping the Tigers. I even proposed to her at the WHF Big Cat Sanctuary at Headcorn. With only 300 Sumatran Tigers left in the wild, we hope this event will not only raise much needed funds for ZSL but it will also highlight and raise the profile of the drastic work that needs to be done in order to save the Sumatran Tiger. Back in 2013, 300 brave people took part in the first ever Tiger Streak and in one evening raised over £80,000 for the ZSL !

This year we're using the fear factor of taking part to get fit, slim down and get healthier, 7 months to get bodies we're not ashamed of showing off in public. I'm not getting my backside on the News At Ten again unless I've lost a good few pounds ! ;-)

And this time we are doing it in memory of two dear friends who have passed away since 2013, both gave us tremendous support the last time and they'll be up there in the clouds laughing at us again. The one and only Howard Evans who gave us airtime on Academy Fm radio, with every pun, song and gag about being naked played especially for us. Shame we couldn't take his little Kandi with us, she'd love having a trot round the zoo. And an old friend of mine John Land who was our biggest financial sponsor last time, he contacted me after seeing a piece about our forthcoming streak in the local paper, and found it so funny we were doing this. Tragically he told me that he was suffering from terminal cancer and didn't have long to live, but our nutty run had cheered him up so much in his dark days. After the streak he incredibly changed his will to include a further substantial donation in our name to the ZSL Tiger Conservation Project. Lynn and I were truly humbled by his generosity.

And lastly .... why get naked and run? ....Because the term “Streak” is the collective name for a group of tigers !

Please donate whatever you can, even if its just a £1, all money raised via this page goes to the cause, we've paid our event entry fee separately.
