Story

Hi Folks,

Thanks for taking the time to show interest and support for this fundraiser.

The mental health crisis facing our youth seems enormous and growing, even before Covid-19. Now, young people to be struggling even more with the added uncertainties and the new realities we are all facing… and it feels like it's getting worse to me. Isolation, loneliness, anxiety, uncertainty, addictive and self harming behaviours – these issues seem to have become far worse for young people as a result of the pandemic.

Young people are calling out for help.

They are telling us that they feel scared.

That they feel desperate.

That they don’t know if their feelings are normal or healthy.

That they don’t know what to do when they begin to spiral downwards with feelings of anxiety, depression, and loneliness.

This crisis demands a solution.

That’s where you come in.

Please give as much as you can toward this work right now.

Every penny of your donation will go toward funding iHeart (Innate Education and Resilience Training) for youth.

I have worked for decades in mental health and human behaviour so I see young people struggling to come to terms with themselves and life.  As a young person I suffered also and was sent to an educational psychologist.   Adults thought there was something wrong with me.  There wasn't but no-one told me.  I spent years self-harming, struggling socially, battling anger issues, depression, anxiety, drugs and alcohol.

I was just struggling like many young people do with understanding myself and how the human experience (mental health and wellbeing) works.  If I knew then what I know now, I definitely would have been fine. iHeart provides this self awareness, support and enablement through resilience and well-being training that is perfect for many young people transitioning to adulthood at a time in life that is crucial to form well balanced, happy and sustainable adulthoods and ultimately our future as a society.

I have witnessed first hand individuals undertaking iHeart training finding new self-confidence and direction in life.  I have seen a young 16 year old go from a desperate suicidal young person struggling with eating disorders to being ready to live the rest of her life going forward!

Young people need this more than any time now.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

As an added incentive to give to this fabulous charity and my fundraising here I make the personal pledge to shave my head and beard off totally in a "Britney Spears"/"Pandemic Haircut" show of solidarity!  Please help me take this stand for our youth in the UK and globally and raise as much as I can.

You can give our children the gift to uncover their own innate mental health; the gift of a healthy future. You can help alleviate their inner anguish and show them that a bright future lies ahead, regardless of current circumstances.

iheart’s message is more relevant now, during a global pandemic, than ever before: resilience and wellbeing is innate and always accessible – no matter what.

Many thanks to all.

Kind regards

Tim Gunner
