What are we doing?

We are doing various events over the next year, culminating in cycling Lands End to John O'Groats in September 2016. That is over 1100 miles in 2 weeks! Some of us haven't been on a bike since we were kids and realise we've got our work cut out!

Who are we and why are we doing this?

We work in Cardiothoracic Intensive Care and Theatres at Wythenshawe Hospital in South Manchester & we want to make an even bigger difference in our patients lives by raising funds to help improve our service. We are a team of people who do around 60 heart and lung transplants every year, keep people alive on specialist machines called ECMO if their heart or lungs are damaged and not working, treat patients having heart attacks and last year were the biggest centre in the country for doing lung cancer resection surgery. All that and we do around a 1000 heart bypass and valve operations every year!

Over the years we have expanded our service and are treating more patients. As we do that, we realise that their is even more we can do and want to help transform the lives of MORE of our patients, be that getting them through something like swine flu or a heart transplant.

As you can imagine, that keeps us all very busy but we've decided to go one further and cycle from Lands End to John O'Groats next year to raise money  for our department.
