Story

Update: A combined total 104.8 miles in just under 22 hours means that all members of Team Siggs successfully completed the Robin Hood Marathon and fulfilled our part of the deal in order to gain your sponsorship!

It started as a tough day with the early sunshine raising the temperature to a level higher than we had hoped. But good old blighty didn't fail us as the clouds soon came. Race tactics and varied approaches to training led us to adopt an 'every man/ woman for themselves' approach. But each of us fought our own battles to ensure that we made it round, and are especially thankful for all of you who turned out on the day to cheer us on. We are all truely touched by the generosity shown by all, from the bottom of our hearts we thank you, knowing that we were raising such a handsome total really did help to keep us all motivated through the long hours out running both on the day and in training.

For those interested in the final placings of all members of the team they are as follows, but of course it is just the taking part that counts:

1. Nick - pipped Kath on the line to beat her by literally a few seconds and overall surprise package considering his confession of never having made it to running even half the full distance in his training!

2. Kath - an early pace setter who stayed out in front up until those last few yards, but certainly a winner for the overall growth in the size of her toes with blisters the size of golfballs by the end of it.

3. Tim - was only doing it for the experience and didn't really try that hard, probably could have shaved an hour off his time if he'd wanted to

4. Dan - epitomised what the whole challenge was about; determination, motivation and dedication to keep going no matter the challenge - including adding an extra few hundred yards to the standard route on the way round by taking a slight detour, although he protests that he was not looking for a pub...

Thank you once again for all your support!

Tim

Original Message: Last year I completed my first marathon, and this year I have decided to rope in my siblings to run one with me! So on September 12th Daniel, Kathryn, Nicholas (one of whom may be the reason you're reading this!) and I will be running the Robin Hood Marathon.

It was an easy decision to decide on a charity to run for. Although I am fortunate to have three great siblings (and I'm sure they'd say the same!), sadly there should have been a fourth. Our brother Richard suffered from abnormalities with his heart and passed away aged just eight days. On the 12th September this year Richard would have been 31.

Thanks to organisations like The British Heart Foundation developments in modern medicine now mean that babies suffering from the same problems as Richard now have a much greater chance at life. In Richard's memory and to celebrate his birthday we hope to raise some money to help support the great work of the BHF.

We all appreciate that in these times it is hard to have any spare cash, but would be so grateful for even the smallest donation. If everyone we knew just gave a pound then we could raise a sizeable donation to support what the BHF do.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Tim
