In May of 2014, my aunt Julie and I will be running a half marathon together (in Binghamton, NY) to raise money for Mary's Meals, which provides meals for children in developing countries so that they can have enough energy to attend school. A sum of roughly ten pounds can feed a child for a year, and Mary's Meals is now feeding over 700,000 children every year!!!!!!

Mary's Meals was my dad's favourite charity, and he donated  monthly towards their cause. My dad was a physical oceanographer specialising in Arctic oceanography, and was also a senior lecturer at The Scottish Association for Marine Science. He was killed by lightning on January 27th, 2013. In raising money for his favourite charity, we hope to help his kind and generous spirit to live on. He was highly thought of in the oceanography community and loved travelling to the Arctic to conduct research, whether by ship, plane, or submarine. He loved living in Scotland - right by the water - and also enjoyed travelling in Europe, bicycling, hill running, and sailing - amongst many other activities!

Dad valued education very highly, and was a passionate scientist. To raise money for Mary's Meals would allow more children to receive the education that they deserve, by feeding them the food that they need.
