Ride London 100 · 2 August 2015 ·

The Sebastian Coe Charitable Foundation has been set up with an ambition to improve the physical wellbeing of the nation. It supports inspirational projects related to sport, health, education and science and has recently partnered with Cancer Research UK to support the Francis Crick Institute.

Story

On the morning of 2nd August 2015 I will be taking part in the 2015 Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 event.

RideLondon-Surrey 100 starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey. With leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics. The race  finishes on The Mall in central London, shortly before 150 professional cyclists race in the RideLondon Surrey Classic on a similar route. SO NO PRESSURE THEN!

I am proud to be cycling as a member of Team Coe and will be raising money for the Sebastian Coe Charitable Foundation. Lord Coe set up his Foundation with an ambition to improve the physical wellbeing of the nation by supporting a range of inspirational projects in sport, health, education and science.  They have recently partnered with Cancer Research UK, the UK’s leading cancer research charity, to fundraise for a ground-breaking project which is set to change the face of biomedical research for generations to come, The Francis Crick Institute.

We’re really excited to be fundraising for the Francis Crick Institute, a new
research facility that will change the face of medical research. Due to open in Spring 2016, the Crick will be a landmark in biomedical research, where 1,200 leading scientists will be working together under one roof across a range of disciplines. This centre of medical excellence will help us make rapid progress against cancer, alongside a whole host of life threatening illnesses.

Their goal is to understand the basic biology underlying human health, and to find ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the diseases that cause over 36 million deaths each year, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, HIV, malaria, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. For more information on the impact this ground breaking institute will make please visit www.crick.ac.uk

“If we get this right, we’re going to change the world”
Sir Paul Nurse, Director and Chief Executive of the Francis Crick Institute

I have chosen to support the Sebastian Coe Charitable Foundation because 80% of the money I raise will go directly to Cancer Research, the other money also towards.

...Got that? Those of you that know me well will know I caught the cycling bug a few years back, but until now I haven't done a serious race or Sportive (cycle speak see?) It so happens Lord Coe who is Exec Chairman of my company had some charity places available for 'Team Coe', so nothing ventured and all that! In the past weeks I have been training hard and following a program with help along the way from Team Coe including advice, pointers and inspiration from Mark Colbourne CBE Paralympic Cyclist Gold Medalist and World Champion. I am aiming to complete the race in a respectable time too, so as little over 6 hours as possible is my goal right now.

By joining Team Coe I have committed to raising an ambitious target of £2,000 for the Sebastian Coe Charitable Foundation.  I aim to raise these crucial funds through a number of activities including my 100 Mile race, and by asking for support and sponsorship from my friends and colleagues like yourself. Already my company Essentially and Full Access Hospitality have committed  a generous £1,000 to start me off! (thanks Matt and Luke) I would be so grateful if you too could support me in my cycle challenge and help me to exceed my ambitious fundraising target so that together we can play our part in shaping a legacy that will change the face of bio-medical research!

Thanking you in advance
