RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

Pups passed away at 4.05pm on the 22th March 2017. He was 55. He had lived with COPD, as a result of many years of smoking, for the last four years or so.

A chest infection led to complications which meant he had trouble breathing. This eventually led to his heart stopping, and although he was resuscitated, he suffered severe brain damage. He passed peacefully and wasn't in any pain.

His funeral is taking place on 11th April, and we ask that people make donations instead of sending flowers.

Tim had an affinity with the RNLI and all they do to save lives at sea. His Aunty Meg supported them as it was stationed at Bembridge near their home. A keen swimmer in his early years, his love of the Isle of Wight, as well as his admiration for his father who was in the Navy, are all reasons why we have chosen this charity.

Tim was a lot of fun to be around. A bit of a showman, other times a show off. He never really wanted me to see him as a parent but more as a mate. That's why I never called him dad, but 'Puppy'. He called me 'matey'.

Every weekend spent with him was either going out for meals, playing Playstation, renting films and ordering takeout, trips around London, or going down the pub. Later in life, it was staying up to god awful hours drinking and listening to music. As a result of so much exposure to music, films, food, fashion, and the city, I believe I'm ALMOST as culturally well-versed as he was.

He was a loving and supportive man, who would tell you profusely how much he cared. He told me loads how proud he was of me. Often he'd talk far too much, going over points again and again to make sure you got where he was coming from. Something he definitely passed on to me.

I invite everyone to put on their favourite David Bowie album, raise a glass (or a bottle... or 3) of red wine to Tim. And if  you can, make a donation through this JustGiving page. I love you Puppy, Oh! You Pretty Thing.
